Based on the recent study of young adults of ages 18-35 from diverse denominations and countries Millennials in Ministry unveils the heart and vision of young leaders for the Christian church in our generation. Highlighting the generational traits, values, and needs of Millennials in ministry is therefore essential.
Understanding Millennials and Ministry
Millennials, like many other Christian believers, want and desires to be involved in the ministry. Most of us can be honest and say that we grow as we serve God’s people. This is true with Millennials. Many of the millennials in our communities are a great asset to the the Body of Christ at large. We, as mature leaders must acknowledge that and reach out and mentor them accordingly. They have not just gifts and talents but also proven skills. They are exposed to new things that would benefit the Body of Christ greatly.
Millennials wants to feel included and NOT Secluded
The issue or tension to ministries and their management is the ideas that these millennials bring to the service when given opportunities. Sometimes we find their ideas so different that we reject it before giving them opportunity to explore and expound them. We must wake to realize that rejecting their ideas might be blocking the blessing that God has placed in the Body of Christ and what He wants to do in this generation. I believe that most of the gifts and talents among the young adults emerges more in the areas of technology including websites designs, podcasts, media, church apps and like.
Even if it’s just an online community interaction via Zoom or group text or group FaceTime, connection within the community , is a great opportunity for them to share their ideas, how things are going at work, at home, and in general. In other words, they need community support.
Our Commitment to Millennials
Our ministry has adapted an interactive broadcast and a ministry slot for different young adults in this category called “Millennials and Ministry“. Our purpose is to connect them to the rest of the Body of Christ as well as to offer helpful Biblical ministry insights and resources for the purpose of equipping them to take on their roles / platform as the next generation of leaders.
Our goal in starting out “The Millennial And Ministry” Broadcast is to connect them with each other starting from a local level all the way to the international level. We also support or engage millennials with group and community-serving opportunities. Most of Millennial’s lives have been focused on being connected anyway. They were born into the generation of having cell phones as well as the internet technology skills to get a lot done.
The key features defining our ministry to Millennials
- Examine their social behavior, and psychological drives in order to understand and engage them as emerging generation of leaders in their rightful positions
- Offers tips and strategies for church leaders to engage, mentor, and empower them in their calling or gifting
- Identify challenges facing Millennials and pray with them helping them overcome those challenges
- Help assess and evaluate their God given gift and talents in order to encourage them through mentorship in those areas
- Help them attain the necessary ministerial tools to advance in their calling
Lastly, we acknowledge that the main need for millennials is mentorship / discipleship plus ministerial resources. They need financial resources, whether it is for their furtherance of higher education or resources to buy ministry equipment needed to advance God’s Kingdom. Our ministry (Missions for Christ Ministries (MCM) is instrumental in encouraging those older in the ministry to make it their # 1 priority to support Millennial outreaches both locally and abroad.
